Advent begun this week. It starts with hope. Take a listen.

Part way through through the sermon you hear the first few bars of “O Come O Come Emmanuel.” That sample was from this video:

John spoke over the music during the video (the audio didn’t balance on the recording). He spoke of the many people that had that same cry. People from the exile have cried many times over over: O come, O come Emmanuel. Have you ever cried it? Know anyone that has? See not as a desire to know Jesus but instead a desire to be set-free

  • Oppressed Jews under Roman occupation
  • Africans ripped from their continent during the slave trade
  • Mennonite exiled from Russia
  • Jews in Nazi Germany
  • Palestinians in Occupied Territories
  • Aboriginal children and youth in residential schools
  • Gays and lesbians through the movement of the last couple decades
  • Women in abusive situations
  • Individuals struggling with eating disorders
  • Consumers finding meaning only in the consumption of stuff
